Commercial Finance Manager

Immediately available, experienced commercial finance professional, who is qualified by experience, with a hands on approach and the ability to be inquisitive and not afraid to challenge, ensuring the correct timely financial reporting and commercial decisions are made. Experience of working to private-equity backed business deadlines and reporting. Has a “can-do” attitude and a management style of developing individuals and driving attention to detail, accuracy and commercial awareness. Continuously reviewing for ways of avoiding overcomplicated, duplication and time-consuming processes, implementing a more simplified approach without compromise. Excellent at building, repairing and strengthening internal and external relationships.

Reviewing costs for all business units and ensuring they are coded into the correct cost centre, code and period, creating journals for corrections and obtaining intercompany sign off where necessary
Identifying trends and run rate helping identify any missing costs or revenue and analysing any variances, providing commentary to Managing Director and Managers
Ensuring and recognising any chargeable and additional costs are invoiced to the client by checking revenue in each contract on a monthly basis
Analysing accruals and prepayments on a monthly basis, revising where necessary
Checking labour costs to ensure they are correct and reporting on variances for payroll, hourly paid depot staff and agency depot staff
Ensuring all costs including labour and plant equipment that are chargeable are invoiced to the client under the contractual agreement, and also ensuring non chargeable hours are kept to a minimum
Reviewing time sheets for agency hours and rates for depot workers and liaising with external agencies when incorrect, accruing for missing timesheets
Finalising month end accounts line by line with Depot Managers, also including session towards end of meeting to highlight areas where cost savings can be made
Interaction, review and commentary supporting the monthly management accounts with Commercial Director, CEO, Regional Managing Director and CFO advising of variance, trends and exceptions, also inform of risks or opportunities in future month
Complete monthly report in PowerPoint of KPIs and distribute to Regional Managing Director

Working as part of the Senior Leadership Team
Commercially responsible for three operating centres in various locations
Coaching and promoting commercial awareness to operational personnel to include controlling costs and driving efficiencies, including guidance of margins to aid them to make profitable decisions
Ensuring the Works delivered in my areas are within the set budget for each scheme package, understanding where under or over budget
Working with the Operational Teams to communicate the importance of holding suppliers to account commercially
Accountable for the preparation, analysis and submitting invoices to a range of external clients for various types of Works
Interaction and review of monthly management accounts with Finance Director and Service Director, advising of revenue trends and cost fluctuations
Accountable for cash collection and the control of aged debt
Account query resolution, which also includes review and negotiating settlement
Agreement of final accounts with client including ensuring prompt payment on contractual payment date
Liaising and agreeing rates for new external suppliers
Check and authorise payment for supply chain invoices
Managing a commercial team at the various sites, including the Assistant Commercial Manager
