Temporary Financial Controller/Group Financial Controller

ACA Chartered Accountant specifically looking for positions to use commercial and technical understanding to support business units and improve the profitability and working capital position of a company. Has a strong understanding of Excel which they use to create efficiencies in working papers and reduce the lag in time from events occurring to delivery of information. Services include statutory accounting, financial modelling, process improvement, reporting automation, financial controls, audit support and finance transformation.

  • Automating data extraction ready for analysis directly from the ERP system, through Power BI using Python and M code
  • Automatic roll forward of working papers and formulae
  • Standardising journal posting and working papers to avoid different treatment
  • Building templates, models with bespoke VBA for efficient working
  • Utilising AI to enable compatibility with multiple ERP systems
  • Line management of members of staff, providing coaching, mentoring and monitoring performance
  • Responsible for the delivery of the management accounts for all entities, including the review and approval, whilst also assisting as required to ensure delivery by close of play on working day 5
  • Management of cash in the UK to ensure the UK entities support the Group with covenant compliance
  • Business partnering the operations, sales, procurement and contracts teams to provide increased accuracy in forecasting and assisting with management of working capital
  • Continuing support following the transition of a site over to a new reporting system
  • Review and calculation of standard costing across all sites for appropriateness and accuracy
  • Implementing new processes and controls to ensure a strong control environment whilst also creating savings through efficiencies across all sites
  • Managing the continuing change environment from an owner managed business to corporate environment, ensuring the buy in from stakeholders across a variety of departments
  • Delivery of the budget through understanding the business environment and obtaining all budgetary changes from multiple departments to consolidate into one budget for all businesses
  • Consolidation of the monthly management for 18 entities using 5 reporting currencies through Power BI, including preparing and calculating consolidation journals to be presented to the Board
  • Performed the duties of the Group Finance Director following their retirement whilst waiting for a replacement
  • Managed cash for the entire Group, ensuring all entities had sufficient cash to support working capital and paid employees on time while assisting the CFO in the closing stages of the refinance
  • Managed the entire audit for the Group, through preparing all entities in advance and travelled to all locations ensuring compliance and accurate reporting was maintained
  • Preparation of the annual financial statements and assisting all entities with the annual audit procedure for reporting
  • Maintenance of records and report for the UK holding entities and 1 US holding entity
  • Consolidation of the daily cash position and weekly cashflow forecast for submission to the Group CFO
  • Assisting with the monthly board pack including taking responsibility for cashflow reporting, development of trade debtors and reconciling EBITDA to actual rate performance
  • Maintenance of the monthly intercompany matrix to minimise the impact of differences within balances between entities
  • Preparation and invoicing of quarterly management recharges
  • Process improvement within the Group to give guidance on the technical treatment of items
