Establishing trust helps an MD recruit for a Number 2

As a recruiter, establishing trust is one of the most critical factors between a recruiter, job seekers and hiring clients. Developing a good rapport, taking a genuine interest, and successfully filling multiple marketing vacancies led this managing director approach Benjamin Edwards to find a Number 2.

The problem

The managing director came to Benjamin Edwards after we had previously placed several marketing staff with them.  They needed someone who could run the business both financially and operationally in his absence. It was a new post with no job description as such, just a desired outcome. He had built up his company and had new interests that he wanted to devote his time too but was finding it difficult in splitting his time effectively.

The solution

We had a good understanding of the firm from working with the marketing team and whilst this was helpful, this job was unique. We met with the MD to go through expectations and listened to the picture he painted for what a successful outcome would be for him.

We drafted a job description and job adverts, publicised the vacancy and started on a candidate search.

We had a good working relationship with the team and so we could put together a company pack to brief the candidates prior to interview.

All senior candidates who would be responsible for the finances or the running of a business are thoroughly checked out on Creditsafe. Any candidates forward for interview are fully vetted by us. We check their qualifications with the relevant regulatory body and run anti-money laundering checks. We also check IDs and qualifications as well as thorough referencing.

We organised for all candidates to sign a non-disclosure agreement.  It was important to build up a reciprocity of trust.

We set to work sourcing our local contacts as well as headhunting. We recruited a locally qualified senior financial professional who had the enthusiasm drive and background to help secure and grow the business.
