Group Accountant/Group Financial Accountant/Financial Controller

An ACA & ATT qualified Financial Accountant/Controller seeking a new opportunity in Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire, or Hull. Experienced in managing a portfolio of diverse assignments, with strong and in-depth auditing skills.

Maintaining the integrity of the accounting system. Driving significant improvements in procedures, key controls, and balance sheet reconciliations with a hands-on approach.
Oversight and review of i) month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures including income recognition and bordereaux returns to insurers; processing returns from overseas subsidiaries; monthly balance sheet reconciliations
Liaising with the holding company – submitting returns and providing information as required.
Monitoring cash flow and forecasting. Approving and sending major payments.
Oversight of quarterly VAT returns. These incorporate reverse charging and a partial exemption special method. Liaising with tax advisors and HMRC VAT Inspectors.
Corporate finance work. Extensive assistance with the financial due diligence processes (and later accounting work) leading to a) the sale of the business on two separate occasions b) group refinancing.
Dealing with the accounting and taxation aspects of group restructuring and of acquisitions and hive ups of trade and net assets.
Monthly bank reporting and quarterly bank covenant reporting. Dealing with payments of capital, interest, and charges.
Preparing multiple UK and Jersey group and company statutory financial statements using Caseware software. Dealing with technical financial accounting matters. Acting as the principal contact with external auditors in facilitating the smooth running of their audits.
Preparing corporation tax computations and returns and deferred tax computations using Alphatax software. Making best use of group and all other available tax reliefs and allowances. Dealing with corporate interest restrictions Liaising with tax advisers.
Preparing quarterly online regulatory returns to the Financial Conduct Authority.
Promoting a team effort and obtaining the enthusiastic support of my staff. Managing, training, and encouraging them to progress and achieve their aspirations. Recruiting staff.

Undertaking the (internal) year-end audits of subsidiary companies prior to external audit:

Identifying, preparing, and ensuring the processing of correcting accounting entries.
Preparing accounting reconciliations and financial statement disclosures as required.
Reconciling inter-company balances with the parent and advising on correcting journals.
Participating in meetings to resolve issues arising from the work undertaken.
Undertaking standard audit procedures in respect of key balance sheet items.
Preparing financial statement figures and detailed audit files with schedules supporting them.
Liaising with auditors. Dealing with queries to enable the successful conclusion of their audits.

Undertaking various internal audit projects in respect of the main company including preparing a report and recommendations in respect of the procedures of a trading division.
