Finance Director

Experienced  FCCA MSc qualified Finance Director seeking a new opportunity in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, or Lincolnshire.    

Responsibilities & Achievements

  • Manage, motivate and mentor a team of 12 across Finance, HR, IT, and Front of Office, setting monthly as well as annual objectives and targets, monitoring individual and team performance at monthly performance reviews and team meetings.
  • Develop employee skills and knowledge through excellent coaching and training in addition to ensuring a consistently high level of engagement performance and results.
  • Manage the annual business planning and forecast process, ensuring that all required financial and strategic information is collated and submitted professionally and on time.
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly forecasts, management accounts, and general group reporting including weekly, monthly, and quarterly rolling cash flow forecasts.
  • Competently produce and finalise year-end statutory accounts for SME businesses with annual turnover ranging between £40m to £110m, under both IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Manage cash resources including forex accounts and direct bank relations.
  • Manage all insurance policies and claims along with provider relationship management.
  • Ensure all relevant taxes are correctly calculated, accounted and paid to the relevant authorities (VAT, Duty, PAYE, NIC, Corporation Tax, Intrastat returns).
  • Ensure ongoing business compliance for GDPR, CLA, CCO, Tax, Insurance, I.T., and employment law.
  • Assist Operational functions to make good decisions by providing relevant and meaningful data reporting, obtained from multiple IT resources.
  • Provide strategic direction, advice, and guidance as an active non-executive Board member.
  • Lead and manage relevant ad-hoc project work such as new I.T. system implementation projects.

Achievements

  • Significantly improve the performance of the Credit Control team, reducing the Company’s total overdue debt from 49% to 16% in four months, realising £3m in additional cash receipts.
  • Research, identify and recruit a CIPD candidate to form the HR department; helping to internally formalise Company policies, ensuring standardisation and compliance with the latest legalisation. Including centralising the recruitment process through a dedicated resource, and providing support so national managers can focus on engaging customers and driving revenue.
  • Implement continuous improvement across the finance function, eliminating process inefficiencies. In turn, allowing the team to focus on providing added valued insight into divisional gross margin analysis and indirect overhead cost control.  In addition, automating financial reporting processes so there is less time preparing reports and more time reviewing and advising the business.
  • Prepare the consolidated group management accounts on a monthly basis, including further analysing those into 3 additional subgroups to provide a better understanding of individual company performance.
  • Work closely with the external auditors and internal stakeholders during the year-end audit process.
  • Provide subject matter expert advice on key areas of the business such as debt book evolution, customer cash collection performance, gross margin analytics, the efficiency of commodity purchase strategies.
  • Sole responsibility for the successful migration of over 6,000  customer financial records from our legacy billing system onto a single billing platform.
  • Automation of the group management accounts to allow faster, more accurate, and reliable preparation of the monthly accounts.
  • Developed and implemented a billing system sub-ledger reconciliation which allows the Company to control and understand every one of its 25,000+ monthly customer transactions between the billing and accounting systems.
  • Introduced Cost Centre reporting in order for the business to better understand indirect costs and manage overhead expenditure. In total 19 departments were created and reported against on a monthly basis.
