Finance Director

Benjamin Edwards are currently representing an ACMA  immediately available Senior Financial Controller/Finance Director who has just completed a successful contract and is seeking their next interim assignment or permanent opportunity. Working on a variety of long-term senior finance and project management assignments,  They have established a track record of bringing effective, strategic and operational, financial leadership to under-performing commercial operations. Besides being highly skilled in Excel modelling and the application of other Microsoft Office software, they have extensive systems knowledge, having successfully migrated legacy applications onto SAP, JBA Sage, Amazon and Hyperion platforms. Their experience, solid finance background (ACMA qualified), people management skills and IT knowledge mean that they have the foresight along with the capability to be a very effective finance lead, however challenging and complex the situation.


  • Played the pivotal role in leading the recovery and subsequent profitable growth of four poorly performing manufacturing businesses.
  • Fully experienced in both the acquisition and subsequent integration of business activities
  • Have been the business lead on the design, development and go-live of several major systems implementation projects.
  • A divisional lead on the relocation and set-up of a new finance service centre.
  • Where authorised to do so, have always taken the necessary action to ensure that the operational, financial and management resources are aligned to meet the prevailing needs of the business.

Financial Management and Control

  • Developed and implemented strategic plans, budgets and forecasts, giving businesses a clear sense of direction and a benchmark against which to measure actual performance.
  • Produced weekly and monthly monitoring reports containing financial performance, sales analysis, key operational measures, capital expenditure tracking and rolling forecasts.
  • Overseen the production of detailed and complex group structure reporting along with treasury and cash-flow management.
  • Introduced appropriate financial controls and procedures at business unit level in order to safeguard assets and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Developed financial feasibility studies and capital expenditure proposals on a number of major business development projects, including two acquisitions and a new factory build.
  • Prepared draft accounts (inc. tax computations) for both public and private ltd companies.
  • Liaised with both internal and external audit to ensure reporting accuracy and deadlines have always been met without serious challenge.


Leadership and Team Management

  • Provided senior sponsorship and had considerable input into the establishment and effective execution of both cultural change programmes and various business process improvement initiatives
  • Where possible, these initiatives have always been delivered within a value-based framework aimed at cultivating a customer facing team, focused on continuous improvement and taking ownership for their work.
  • Managed a large finance operation consisting of functional finance teams as well as smaller teams of multi-skilled individuals
  • Supervised the on-going development of staff including the provision of in-house training on business systems, business processes and spread sheet modelling.
  • Within a competency based framework, introduced a personal performance appraisal/development system
  • Worked closely with and supported senior management colleagues on strategic and commercial issues
