5 reasons why you should use social media to recruit

Did you know approximately 40% of our online time is spent on social media? And that figure is growing. The most popular social network is still Facebook with 50 million active monthly users (Jan 2021) which increased from 39 million in September 2018, followed by Instagram, Reddit, Twitter and then LinkedIn.

With all this potential reach, you would think all recruiters in the country would be using social media channels as a part of their recruitment method, but a substantial number of them aren’t. We’re going to outline the top 5 reasons why you need to be using social media as part of your recruitment process!

  1. You can reach passive candidates

It’s excellent that you’re promoting your new job opening on job sites such as Indeed or Reed, but here you are restricting your reach to those actively seeking a new role.

Increase your reach to those who may be interested but don’t know it yet and those who aren’t actively looking by using social media. This is especially valuable when recruiting for niche roles, such as developers or engineers, where there’s a national skills shortage, and applicants are more likely to be snapped up quickly.

  1. Showcase your brand to your potential applicants

Social media is the biggest brand awareness tool out there, and it can be a great way to showcase your brand to a potential applicant. Use your social channels to not only advertise your business (80/20 rule; 80% content, 20% promotion) but showcase a positive working environment. Share images or videos of your workplace and you can even share out-of-hours staff events, should you hold them.

  1. Facebook and LinkedIn both allow you to advertise jobs and receive applications through their platform

An easy-to-use, built-in function of both Facebook and LinkedIn is their “jobs” feature. Perfect for posting your positions and accepting applications directly through the applications. You can also schedule interviews and contact clients through both social sites.

  1. It is free to use

Of course, social media almost always offers a paid advertising option, and running basic ads such as Facebook boosts can be influential when it comes to expanding your reach. However, you don’t have to make social media an expensive tool. It can be free or as expensive as you make it, with its promotional options. If your company already has an influential audience on social channels, you may find that your job adverts obtain large amounts of traction without you having to do too much! You can expect to see people share your post with others whom they deem could be interested in your advert.

  1. Work with a recruitment partner

Raising brand awareness of your business by focusing on social media is a great way to attract top talent but you may also need to work with a chosen recruitment partner to enhance your candidate generation portfolio and recruit the best person for the job.

Hopefully, this has given you some inspiration in how you should be proactive in using your social media channels to promote your company values and brand. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch, should you require any help with your recruitment process.
