Where required the PM is able to negotiate with outside sources, partners and suppliers whilst following general guidance provided by the MD and the Commercial Manager.
The PM monitors the project development by communicating frequently with team members and stakeholders and additionally is communicating the project status through formal project plans and meetings.
Generally, the MD is the Project Sponsor but other Senior Managers can also be Sponsors.
The PM works within the constraints of a project budget. Any deviations from the budget required must be agreed with the MD first.
Roles & Responsibilities
As the PM is not the disciplinary head of the project team members, the key tools in achieving the objectives are excellent communication and people skills. However, where appropriate support is not forthcoming the PM can approach Departmental Heads requesting support and ultimately needs to ask for direct instructions coming from the MD.
Project Plans need to be created in formal software, preferably Microsoft Project.
Calculate and evidence spend for the duration of the project
Create reports to be shared at Senior Management Meetings/Board Meetings
Ensure project runs to proposed schedules
